How to read an original

Each work above lists its medium, edition, signature and provenance. This is what those lines mean, and why they differ from one work to the next.

Signed or unsigned
Banksy signed some originals on the front, some on the reverse, and left others unsigned but tagged. All three appear in the works above. Unsigned does not mean unauthenticated: what establishes an original is the Pest Control certificate, not a signature on the face.
Edition or unique
Many originals were made in small editions — of four, ten, fifteen or twenty-five — while others are unique in their format. Edition size is one factor among several, and sits alongside condition, provenance and how sought-after the image is.
Surface and support
Spray paint on canvas, emulsion on board, a screenprint worked over by hand: the support tells you how a work was made, how it should be housed and lit, and what its condition report is describing.
Provenance and exhibition history
Who has owned a work, and where it has been shown, is what distinguishes two otherwise identical examples. A record of museum exhibition travels with the work and forms part of what a future buyer or institution will ask to see.

Why Banksy?

Every Banksy tells a singular story, offering a unique insight into one of the most influential artistic voices of the twenty-first century. Understanding the significance of each work — from its provenance, condition and rarity to its place within Banksy’s wider practice — is essential to making a considered acquisition.

Why collect with Andipa?

Since 2006, Andipa has specialised in collecting and curating original Banksy artworks for private collectors, museums and institutions worldwide. We combine deep expertise with discreet, highly personalised advice, with every original Banksy artwork accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Pest Control, Banksy’s official authentication body.

The gallery was founded by Maria Andipa in 1967 and has traded from the same Knightsbridge townhouse ever since. The family’s name is older still: a coat of arms was granted to them by the Doge of Venice in 1593.

Andipa’s Director, Acoris Andipa, has dealt in Banksy for almost twenty years and has placed hundreds of the artist’s paintings with collectors worldwide. He has shared that expertise with leading international publications and broadcasters — most recently BBC Newsnight, following the unveiling of Blind Patriotism, Banksy’s sculpture in Waterloo Place, St James’s, in April 2026(opens the BBC article in a new tab).

“People buy his works because they absolutely love it. The main feedback that I get is that they really, frankly, don’t care if they know who he is.”

“Rather exclusively, Banksy has managed to create a new set of rules within the art world, which is, if it doesn’t have a certificate of authenticity, you should not sell it, you should not buy it.”

A Legacy of Exhibiting Banksy

Since 2006, we have placed a significant number of original Banksy works with collectors around the world. Andipa have presented original Banksy artworks through a distinguished programme of gallery and museum exhibitions across the UK, Italy, Switzerland and USA. The first unauthorised museum exhibition of artworks by Banksy was curated by Director, Acoris, in 2016, who has since curated academic exhibitions internationally — reflecting Andipa’s long-standing expertise and commitment to sharing Banksy’s work with collectors and public audiences worldwide.

Buying from the gallery

Most originals of this calibre change hands in one of two places. This is how a private sale here works.

The quoted price is the price
Prices include the Artist’s Resale Right where it applies, and there is no buyer’s premium on a private sale. Nothing is added at the point of sale.
Condition before commitment
Every work is forensically examined and its condition report is yours to read while you are deciding — not after.
A conversation, not a contest
A private sale is agreed between two parties. There is no public room, no reserve and no unknown underbidder to be measured against.
Discretion throughout
Enquiries and acquisitions are handled privately, and many important works are placed without ever being publicly offered.

Collector Questions

Are the works authenticated?

Yes. Every original Banksy we offer is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Pest Control, the artist’s official authentication body. Provenance and condition are documented for each work. All works are forensically examined with a condition report. More on Pest Control (opens on andipagallery.com in a new tab).

Do you sell works removed from the street?

No. We deal only in works Banksy made to be sold — paintings, sculptures and unique works on paper that left the studio as artworks. We do not handle pieces cut or lifted from walls: those were made for the street and, in our view, should remain there. It is also why every work we offer can be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Pest Control.

What do original Banksy works cost?

Original Banksy paintings typically begin from approximately £75,000 GBP, with exceptional works commanding significantly higher prices depending on rarity, condition, provenance and exhibition history. Prices quoted include the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR) where it applies, so there is nothing to add at the point of sale. ARR is due on sales of £1,000 and above, charged on a sliding scale from 4% and capped at £12,500 on any single sale.

Can I view a work?

Yes, in three ways. In person, by private appointment at our Knightsbridge townhouse. By live video viewing, with the work shown to you in real time wherever you are. Or, for selected works, by private arrangement in a city closer to you. A work is occasionally on loan to a museum exhibition, in which case we will tell you where it can be seen.

Is my enquiry confidential?

Yes. Enquiries and acquisitions are handled with total discretion, and many important works are offered privately and never made publicly available.

Do you also buy or take Banksy works on consignment?

Yes. If you are considering selling an original Banksy, we would be delighted to advise on valuation and a discreet sale. Please get in touch to discuss your work with us.
